Umar Bashir Ochen is a young indigenous Ugandan from the Karamajong. The Karamajong tribe of indigenous shepherds to which he belongs is faced daily with challanges such as hunger and other issues related to climate change.

And Bashir fights alongside with them. He started introducing the good practices of agroecology to the territory; thanks to his determination and some project funds, he has then managed to reinforce the participation of young natives in a tight collaboration network. He is by their side in the defense of local food heritage, and is trying to raise awareness on the value and the benefits of indigenous food while simultaneously making people aware of the importance of safeguarding biodiversity on the territory. For this reason, he has arranged a farmers’ market where growers can sell their local products and exchange technical and agronomical informations with other farmers.
