Lizet Bautista Patzi is a young Aymara, born from a family of Bolivian farmers, and a gastronomy student. Slow Food enthusiast.
She first heard about the movement during the Indigenous Terra Madre held by Pueblos de America in Mexico; after that, she followed a training course with an international organization of indigenous women who gave her a scholarship to start her advocacy project. Using these funds, Lizet picked an endangered plant – the ajara – as a passenger on the Ark of Taste, asking her community to help her on this rescue mission. Today the ajara is safe, cared for and grown by the Slow Food community of which Lizet is spokesperson: Recuperación del Patrimonio biocultural de Colquiri – Colquir aymar sarawinakapat amthapinaka. We can only admire this young woman, who managed to be heard and to drive her ideas forward – which was far from easy.
