Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo for Terra Madre

15 Giugno 2022

Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo renews its participation in Terra Madre Salone del Gusto 2022.

The cooperation of Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo with Slow Food and Terra Madre is a consolidated reality that is firmly anchored in the sharing of fundamental and indispensable principles in which our foundation deeply believes:

  • promotion of food sovereignty for all, from those who live in the territories closest to us up to those who face these challenges in other parts of our planet
  • environmental protection, a priority theme for imagining a possible future
  • support for the dimension of proximity, to improve the quality of life of our communities and make them more inclusive, supportive and resilient
  • the recognition of the key role that organizations of people with a migratory background can play both in the country of destination and in the country of origin, with regards to the construction of sustainable local food systems.

2022 will be the European Year of Youth, an initiative that will put the spotlight on the importance of European youth in building a better future: greener, more inclusive and more digital. The pandemic hit young people hard who are now facing the challenges of continuing their education, developing new knowledge, accessing the job market, discovering new countries.

The European Year of Youth will provide them with a platform to make their voices heard through commitment and participation, issues that are at the heart of Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo’s investment.

Today’s situation requires us to reflect on the future. The future of our territories, our country, Europe and our planet, aware of the unavoidable interdependence between territories, starting from the commitment of young people. We must be able to grasp the potential that this historical moment holds: the opportunity to formulate new local and global short-term and long-term strategies, reshaping our growth models, and in which, in the new design of our communities, the concepts of sustainable development, food sovereignty, biodiversity, sustainable food systems, fight against surpluses, their reuse, proximity, fight against inequalities and climate change must be placed at the centre.

The role of young people in making this change is fundamental and Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo has been increasingly investing for long time so that young people are guaranteed to have a voice and real possibilities to influence choices.

Among the actions that Compagnia supports to achieve this goal, we can mention the 17 projects conceived and developed directly by young people in Piemonte and Liguria as part of the “GxG – Giovani per i Giovani” call, the YEPP (Youth Empowerment Partnership Programme) project, the numerous empowerment interventions of young people also with migratory backgrounds and participation in communities and the Young Advisory Board: a group of young people selected by Compagnia di San Paolo to offer indications and suggestions to the governance of the Foundation with regard to its multi-year strategic choices.

The new edition of Terra Madre Salone del Gusto, that will be held again in Torino and Piemonte, also as a hybrid event, will be able to make the most of past editions, will offer a lot of online content and will have REGENERATION as its theme. Young people have a key role in all the regeneration processes of our territories, cities and communities, whether they are food-related, environmental-related or social-related.

Even more this year, Terra Madre shows how food can be a bridge to peace and mutual understanding and how, only together, we can cultivate a better future.
